A tool is a symbol, an image of an object with utility, function and purpose. Visually defined by its “instrumentness,” a tool leads and guides the body in discovery. Fingertips find grooves, grips, a place to rest. In this work I seek to understand how one interprets objects; how an implement communicates with the body. By exploring function as metaphor, these objects are created to reference the familiar, therefore informing their perceived usefulness.
