Acrylic on canvas, 2016, 29"w x 29"h x 2"d
Octagon No. 1 layers four gradients on top of one another. Working rotationally around the canvas, each gradient alternates direction. Gradients either go from dark to light or light to dark. Two crosses are created as a result of this pattern. Solid color fields at the base of the painting indicate three different ways the octagon could be subdivided. At the painting’s center, the orange square is a rotated fractal. This fractal is related to the grid created by the intersecting lines of the gradients and is set below the last layer. This is a move of premeditation.
