charcoal on paper, 2014, 15.75"w x 13"h
Creating artwork allows me to uncover, understand and capture hidden narratives in the world I see around me. My current body of work depicts forest landscapes rendered in charcoal on paper, which I then rip and reassemble in dynamic formations, adding a layer of physical dimensionality to the artworks and symbolism. I use photos of the Petroglyphs Provincial Park when fleshing out my work because I am drawn to landscapes that have historical roots that are often mysteries to people. This is due to years of urbanization erasing any trace of these roots from a landscape’s current state.
