Oil on canvas, 2017, 36"w x 72"h x 6"d
With this particular piece, I wanted to explore freedom and motion. Freedom, as the canvas I used was released from the confines of its frame, and motion, as the material was shaped and fashioned as it fell; the paint was driven by gravity and directionality with the changing of its orientation and surface. During this process, the motion became everything. I now understand that the value of a work is held within an experience so aligned with motion that the artist loses himself in its rhythm until all work ceases and every demand is silenced except that present moment the artist creates.
