Acrylic on panel, 2015, 30"w x 30"h x 2"d
In my earlier years of cultural adaptation in Canada, the loneliness and rage led me to discover urban dance as a way to share my voice. It was this specific ritual, captured in the piece, that spiritually empowered me to build my confidence and identity. I wanted to capture the vibrant, dynamic and colorful energy of some of my dance mentors. Although they have different characters, stories and cultural backgrounds, rhythm is the vortex that brings them, and urban dancers worldwide, together in a celebration of harmony and unity.
