Acrylic, oil, burlap, twine and cardboard on wood panel, 2018, 48"w x 60"h x 1.5"d
This piece was inspired by remote fishing villages located along the riverbanks of the Amazon rainforest. The villagers construct homes by using multicolored repurposed and/or salvaged materials. Most of the homes are supported on wooden piles to accommodate the fluctuating water levels between the rainy season and times of drought. The creativity and ingenuity used by the villagers to construct their waterfront habitats has provided my practice with a visual library of information that transformed itself into this work.
